Since its inception in 1998, the Kemple Clinic has provided services to many at-risk children as well as the general school-aged population. We engage more than 100 volunteers, including dental professionals and practicum students, in carrying out our work. The in-kind value of all our services provided to the community averages between $600,000 to $700,000 per year.
Our Dental Clinic Services
An average of 400+ children are treated through our clinic facility each year, providing an annual average of more than 2,000 actual treatments, ranging from basic hygiene treatments (cleanings/x rays/fluoride/sealant applications, etc.) to very extensive dental care. All treatments are delivered by our volunteer dentists/hygienists as there is no full-time dentist on staff. The more extensive, acute dental treatments are delivered in the offices of volunteer dentists. Our patients value their appointments and show up 90% on time. Local volunteer dental professionals contribute an average of $300,000 in donated services each year. Click here to learn more about our Dental Clinic Services.
Our Screen & Seal Programs
With our increased capacity to provide services to children and young adults in non-traditional settings (not at a dentist office), we bring convenience and increased access to families in various locations in Central Oregon. We conduct over 50 customized S&S events each year and connect with over 6,000 children and young adults, who receive oral health education materials, hygiene kits and reinforcement of their oral health care. During these encounters, over 5000 children also receive a basic screening assessment – Parent Report Card.
Our event partners (schools, community organizations, dental providers, etc.) and Kemple Clinic provide appropriate follow-up needed for significant or severe dental issues to ensure that timely, high quality dental care is provided. With parent consent, over 700 children have sealants placed and over 1,600 children receive fluoride applications during these events and at our clinic facility each year. Community Oral Health Advocate/Navigator
Individual attention for families of children and young adults who are having difficulty getting access to timely, high quality dental care is invaluable. Our referral partners attest to the positive outcomes that result from our interventions. We spend countless hours helping families navigate through difficult situations and perceived roadblocks but the gratitude expressed upon successful resolution of these unique barriers to care is seen by Kemple Clinic as an investment in quality healthcare for all. Our collaboration with Volunteers in Medicine for dental care of young adults is an initial step towards achieving coordinated managed care by integrating medical, behavioral and oral health needs of the individual, thus ultimately reducing overall healthcare costs.
